CALLIO

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Solarigo Systems Oy was responsible for the implementation of the Pyhäjärvi Callio solar park, with a capacity of 13 MWp.

The solar park built in Callio was part of the overall Callio-Hitura project, of which the Hitura project is still in the feasibility stage. The project, formerly known as Callio-Hitura, which initially explored the construction of a 75 MW solar park, has since been divided into separate Callio and Hitura projects.

The aim of the project is to develop a concept for repurposing decommissioned mining areas for renewable solar power production in the Nordic countries. In addition, a total of 7.5 MW of electricity storage capacity will be built in connection with the parks.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has granted the project Next Generation EU funding for its implementation.

The project is being carried out in cooperation with Skarta Energy and Lumme Energia. For the purposes of the project, a project company named Callio-Hitura Solarpark has been established.

PROGRESS OF THE PROJECT

Development

The project began to be prepared in cooperation with the city of Pyhäjärvi, Pyhäsalmi Mine Oy and the Callio Energy Park project in Pyhäjärvi.

The mine tailings lands, which have gone out of use, were identified as the project area. Tailings lands cannot be used for anything other than lightweight structures, for example solar power plants.

Implementation of the plugin

The 5.0 Megawatt expansion part of Atrian Auring was put into operation in March 2023. As a new technology, double-sided bi-facial solar panels were used in the park.

The extension part was built as a single park complex on the east side of the factory area.

With the expansion, Atria covers approximately 8% of its electricity consumption with emission-free solar electricity.
